Kandu Arts - Carolyna:
-Website: www.kandu-arts.com
Being a patron of the organisation Kandu Arts and having released the single If That Were Me back in 2000 to raise funds for the project No Place Home, this time Melanie contributed with the song Carolyna to the soundtrack of the film project Bashstreet.
Kandu produces art in the form of film, theatre and music to highlight social problems in society, with the aim of getting people to engage with an issue and help fix it.
In the process of making the art they involve local people, businesses, and anyone who is part of the wider community.
The director of Kandu, Ed Deedigan, said: "Our new film has been developed with community members and groups that Kandu work with in London, Swindon and Wiltshire and we aim to cast people from Chippenham and other towns alongside established professionals."
"Melanie will be contributing her latest single release to the soundtrack of our next film project called Bashstreet."
"Mel's help has always been invaluable. The content of her song holds a mirror up to the lives of the people that Kandu aim to support."
"The film and the workshops will enable real people a chance to tell their stories and with this fantastic single and Mel's ongoing support, more people will benefit."
"She is actively involved in the work that we do. This song is her way of expressing her understanding of those who are less fortunate."
Kandu's previous film project, Everything, starring Ray Winstone and Jan Graveson, was BAFTA nominated and received widespread critical acclaim.

One Planet Campaign:
-Website: www.wwf.org.uk
Melanie took part of the One Planet campaign of WWF, an online tool for people to measure and decrease their impact on the planet. Throught the footprint calculator on the website www.wwf.org.uk/calculator, Mel answered the lifestyle quiz questions, discovered how many planets her personal footprint measures and got individual tailored steps to help reduce her footprint. Mel has a footprint of 2.30 planets, what means that she lives as if we had 2.3 planets supporting us, and she is below the UK average of 3.2 planets.
Melanie said: "It is alarming the rate at which our lifestyles are damaging the planet. We must shrink our footprint down to one planet resulting in us living in harmony with nature. WWF's online footprint calculator is a great way to help us all discover how we can lead greener lifestyle. Through making the right choices as individuals we can help protect our environment in Wales and around the world."

Shire Hall Clock:
In August, Melanie donated some signed merchandise to help repair Shire Hall Clock in Monmouth, Wales, needing about $4,000 worth of work. She was also invited to a masked ball fundraiser, but turned down the invitation because it clashed her promotional schedule. Melanie said: "I am not going to be able to attend the masked ball because of my touring schedule, but I hope you raise a lot of money to restore Shire Hall to its former glory."
Mind Week 2007:
-Website: www.mind.org.uk
Mind is the leading mental health charity in England and Wales. They work to create a better life for everyone with experience of mental distress. Every year the campaign Mind Week is dedicated to a theme and the participants can fly a kite to promote the event. This year's Mind Week (12 to 19 May) focused on the positive effects of green exercise on mental health. Green exercise can be any healthy outdoor activity that you choose, from a walk in the park, a ball game or even conservation work. Melanie showed her support and donated a signed kite.

Campaign against Fairfield High School closure:
Parents and employers of the school Mel went to in Widnes asked her for help when the school faced closure this year.
The closure of Fairfield High is part of the government’s "Building Schools For The Future" plans. Dwindling pupil numbers are among the factors for the axe with its roll dropping from 1,150 to 700 since 1999.
Lynne Parsons, whose son Liam, 13, attends Fairfield, said: “Its smaller class sizes mean it’s able to focus on personal development. We’ve got in touch with her management and we’re hopeful Mel will want to save it. The school, with its emphasis on performing arts and getting the best out of every child, has helped make Mel who she is.”
Melanie replied their plea and sent a statement to the parents, saying that she hopes her support will "help your campaign" and that "my time at Fairfield High was fantastic". She also remembered her student days, from 1985 to 1990, with compliments to the school: "Not only did I leave with a great education, I was able to pursue my love of performing arts and sport. Both departments were brilliant – kept me busy and out of trouble."
The father of one of the children, Chris Blackett, said: "I contacted Mel’s management team and was made up when I got a reply. Her manager said Mel hoped her comments would help our campaign. Mel didn’t want to go too deeply into the politics side of things, but her support is there for all to see."
Headteacher Jeff Hughes declared to be delighted that Mel joined their fight: "I have seen Mel’s statement and am delighted she has given her support and spoken so nicely about the school."

Children In Need:
The single Headlines (Friendship Never Ends) marked the return of the Spice Girls and had all royalties given to the BBC's charity campaign Children In Need, as it was the official Children In Need single in 2007. The five girls performed for the campaign's TV special, singing Stop and Headlines (Friendship Never Ends) and also a Pudsey bear (the official mascot of BBC Children In Need) signed by the Spice Girls was auctioned on eBay to help raising money. Unfortunately, Headlines (Friendship Never Ends) became the worst selling Children In Need song ever, with the number 11 being its highest position on the UK singles chart.

Children's Society Book:
-Website: www.childrenssociety.org.uk
The charity Children's Society reunited festive celebrity traditions for a special book and Melanie helped the project by talking about her Christmas' memories: "I remember as a teenager, babysitting my little brother on Christmas Eve, getting settled into our bunk beds and reading Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer to him. I don't know whether he got any sleep but I certainly didn't!"
