Directed by Jhoan Camitz, Making the most justice ever of her Sporty Spice nickname, Melanie comes up with a ponytail wearing a tracksuit in a hotel lobby. Wannabe soon became a favourite in 30 countries, establishing itself as the biggest Virgin Records’ hit in the last 13 years. When Wannabe hit the 1st spot in the british chats, the girls broke a record: it was the first time a girl band went to number one since The Bangles, a successful group from the past.

Wannabe went to number one in 36 countries.

Wannabe ended up selling 6 million copies worldwide… and it was just a single! It was the 2nd best selling single in 1996 in the United Kingdom and the 12th best selling of the 90’s, selling 1,269,841 copies only in the UK.

On January 14th 1997, Wannabe was released in the United States and had the highest ever debut for a British act, in number 11. Four weeks later it went up to number one, staying in the top position for 4 weeks. It sold around 1,000,000 copies in the United States.

Say You’ll Be There sold more than 350 thousand copies only on its first week in the United Kingdom, going platinum in the UK and putting the girls in the Guinness Book.

Say You’ll Be There stayed in the UK’s Top 40 for 12 weeks and for 17 weeks in the Top 75. it was the 4th best selling single in 1996 and the 30th best selling single of the 90’s. it sold 930,000 copies in the United Kingdom.

The Spice Girls broke their own record with Wannabe's debut in the United States when Say You’ll Be There went straight to number 5 in the American charts. The single was released in the country on May 6th 1997 and weeks later climbed to number 3, selling 500,000 copies only in the US.

Even though its release was 2 weeks before the end of the year (December 16th), 2 Become 1 was the best selling single in the UK that year, once it sold 730,00 copies in just 2 weeks! 2 Become 1 is the 67th best selling single in the history of British music and sold 2,5 million copies worldwide.

In 1997, the single sold a further 350.000 copies and was the 35th best selling single that year as well as the 24th of the 90’s. It stayed inside the UK’s Top 75 for 23 weeks.

2 Become 1 was released in the United States on July 29th 1997, selling 500,000 copies and hitting number 4 in the charts. Together, Say You'll Be There and 2 Become 1 went to number 1 in 53 countries!

Unlike the previous singles, Mama/Who Do You Think You Are was released only in the United Kingdom on March 3rd, the Comic Relief Day. On March 14th the Spice Girls participated on the Red Nose Day and donated the profits from the single sales to the campaign, to help poor people in the UK and in Africa.

Mama/Who Do You Think You Are sold 660,000 copies in the United Kingdom and was the 15th best selling single in 1997 and the 75th best seller of the 90’s.
