The Reason album is dedicated to Melanie’s boyfriend, Thomas Starr, click HERE to read the thank yous.

Reason got to the 5th place in the UK charts, selling 30,876 copies in the first week. Although it didn’t have such a good performance as Northern Star, Reason sold 100,000 copies in the United Kingdom. Melanie said on her official website: "I'm over the moon with the album chart entry... number flippin' five!!! Thank you all so much. I'm a massive fan of every artist above me and i'm privileged to be so close. Come-onnnn!!!"

In January of 2004, Reason started being sold for the same price as Northern Star in the major stores in the United Kingdom, but even then Northern Star outsold it!

On its first midweek chart, Here It Comes Again hit the 4th place, but by the end of the week the sales reduced and the single got to the charts at position 7.

Despite having sold 19,000 copies in the first week, the single ended up selling only 40,000 copies in total.

Here It Comes Again was the 191st best selling single in 2003, the only position Melanie held that year, even after the release of two more singles later in 2003.

The Sun published an article saying that Mel’s friend Natalie Appleton had given her the lyrics to Here It Comes Again. But soon Melanie cleared the situation: "I started working with Marius (De Vries) and he works in a way where he works on lots of tracks and any one you feel inspired by you take them away and write a song to it. I put a drum loop on it, I worked on it and Natalie had been working on it as well and we’ve both written very, very different songs. Me and Natalie sat there one night talking about our new stuff and were both like 'I’ve written a song to that!' We both sat there and sang the song and together they sounded really cool. So we’ve both written the songs to the same backing track, but Here It Comes Again is my song. That’s it, basically."

  4. On The Horizon - video backstage shoot

Directed by Howard Greenhalgh, Melanie drives around to find her duplicated images that are in frozen scenes. When she finds them, Melanie gets inside them to give movement to the scene. The duplicated images are playing basketball, jumping in the water, at a car wash… At the end of the video, Melanie and her duplicated image leave together in the car. Melanie co-wrote On The Horizon with the leader of the band New Radicals, Gregg Alexander, and she tells: "I was in London and I was working up in Primrose Hill with Matt Rowe and he said ‘oh I've got this friend Gregg who wants to come in and, you know, and write with us'. I was like ‘Gregg who?' ‘Gregg Alexander'. ‘Oh yes, yes, I know Gregg Alexander'. So I said ‘that's cool', but anyway it didn't happen. And then I was in LA and Rick Nowels goes ‘oh I've got this friend Gregg who wants to come in on the session'. I went ‘Gregg who'? ‘Gregg Alexander'. I was like, ‘Ahhh, OK'. And it did happen that time which was great because I think Gregg's done some fantastic work and I had no idea what he was like. I mean I remembered him from the New Radicals but I'd never met him before. And he walked in the room and he is larger than life, mad as you like but, the sweetest guy. And he just came in, ‘got this idea for a song - On The Horizon, love, da da da,' he started singing! And that's the collaboration when you try to get a word in edgeways,'what about this, you know?' And he was just flying, such a talented guy. So that was a real fun collaboration actually, he's got such a positive message and for me it's one of

those songs where when I'm singing it I want you to be able to hear me smiling and I think I've captured that in the song."

Even with only Evanescence as the strongest competitor, On The Horizon wasn’t capable to make a better performance than Here It Comes Again in the charts. It was poorly promoted, badly distributed by the record company and only sold 8,000 copies on its first week, debuting at the 14th place in the UK. The single sold 25,000 copies in total.

Never Be The Same Again Live: Recorded in 2003, during Belgium’s Donna Radio special.

Wonderland: Almost 7 minutes of one of the most intimate lyrics ever written by Melanie. The co-writers are part of Joe Strummer’s band.

  4. Let's Love Instrumental (Melanie Chisholm/Dave Munday/Phil Thornalley) Produced by Phil Thornalley/Patrick McCarthy - Mixed by Patrick McCarthy

In order to be used in a Toyota commercial in Japan for 6 months, the track Let’s Love was released as a promotional single in the country. The single could also be found in some stores in Europe. The release of the song didn’t aim charts positions, as neither a video nor promotion was held, only the car advertisement itself.

Melanie said about the song: "This is me writing with Phil Thornalley and Dave Munday - we did Be The One together on the last record - and with Pat McCarthy producing. They played me this kind of Stones-ish riff, a bit too Brown Sugar to my tastes. But when they put a disco beat behind it, I got really excited. Lyrically, it's not too deep. There's no real significant meaning here. But there's some great playing on it, and just as a track it's a lot of fun."

Melanie intended to release only the track Yeh Yeh Yeh on September 22nd. The video had been ready since June. On September 6th Melanie joined other celebrities in Channel 4’s The Games, competing against each other in several sports disciplines for one week in order to raise money for charity. On September 11th, Melanie was rushed to the emergency room after a rupture of her knee’s crucial ligament and damage of other two ligaments during a judo fight with Miss World Azra Akin. Melanie had a surgery done and needed absolute rest for 2 weeks. The single got postponed several times (from September 15th to October 27th and then to November 10th) and was released randomly in Europe in a version that only included Yeh Yeh Yeh. After starting physiotherapy and being able to walk with the help of a leg brace, Melanie decided to have Melt as an A-side and turn Yeh Yeh Yeh into a double single to be released on November 10th. Melt, being a slower track, allowed Melanie to perform with the immobilized leg.

The promotion for the single by Virgin Records was as poor as for On The Horizon. Melanie started to feel dissatisfied about the work done by the record company.

Originally released on November 10th the single faced competition such as Madonna and Britney Spears' duet, Ronan Keating and Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Wearing a leg brace, Melanie was able to perform in a few festivals and TV shows although the single had a poor promotion.

The single debuted at 27th place and only sold 10,000 copies.

Melanie was hoping to release the song Reason as the next single but Virgin Records didn’t agree on keep promoting the album, what resulted on the split between Melanie and the record company.
