The weeks before the release of the album were full of rumours and bets concerning who would win the “chart battle”: Spice Girls or Westlife. That happened because Westlife’s Coast to Coats was set to be released the same day as Forever. Unfortunately, the album went to number 2, selling only 71,000 copies on its first week.

Released a day later in the United States the album had a lack of promotion, resulting in the debut at the 39th position selling only 34,000 copies on its first week.

Despite having sold 1 million copies worldwide only on its first week, the success didn’t continue and Forever ended up selling 280,000 copies in the United Kingdom, 200,000 in the United States and 4 million copies worldwide.

The album Forever debuted at the 2nd position on the Brazilian charts, climbing to the number 1 spot the week later and staying there for the next two weeks. At the same time, it brought the previous Spice albums back to the top 20 most selling charts. Spice World, which had been released 3 years before was back in the 9th position and Spice in the 16th.

Promos of the tracks Tell Me Why, If You Wanna Have Some Fun and Weekend Love were released but the band never promoted the songs.

The choice of “Forever” as the title of the album happened near its release when Mel C and Mel B suggested the name as it already was the title of one of the Spice Girls' book and because Mel C used to sing 'Spice Girls forever' while performing the song Viva Forever at the shows.

During the “Christmas In Spice World” tour in 1999 the Spice Girls performed 3 new songs: Right Back At Ya, W.O.M.A.N. and Holler, known as "Holler Holler" at the time. But W.O.M.A.N was never officially released.

Melanie didn’t co-write 3 tracks from Forever: Tell Me Why, Get Down With Me e Time Goes By.

Directed by Greg Masurak, in this video, like in the Holler video, each one of the girls is an element, they’ve just swapped them. This time Melanie is water and, wearing blue clothes, she sings under a water jet, dances and shakes her completely soaked hair. Afterwards all Spice Girls sing at each other’s scenery.
